[su_spoiler title="INFO ABOUT CAIRNS CITY" style="fancy"]
• Cairns City About a 15min Taxi Ride From Airport.
• Gateway To The Great Barrier Reef Snorkel Dive Tours.
• Gateway To Kuranda Village & Cape Tribulation.
Cairns is an iconic tourism destination here in Australia, the city is located on the North East Coast of Queensland in general about a 2 hour flight from Brisbane and about a 3 hour flight from Sydney, also about a 3.5 hour flight from Melbourne.
With a population of about 140,000 people Cairns scooped it’s title as the principle center for Reef Tourism here in Australia. How? Why? well the city received its title as the place to visit The World Famous Great Barrier Reef during the late 70’s and early 80’s. How did this happen? well this was mainly due to the location of Cairns City and its close proximity to the Great Barrier Reef itself. In turn this close proximity is what has transformed Cairns from a sleepy little town into one of the main tourism hubs of Australia.
Markets and Yummy Food in Cairns:
A little bit of local knowledge can go a long way, for example did you know about Rusty’s Market? This is one of Cairns longest running fruit and vegetable markets, with a fantastic view into the lives of everyday local Cairns people going about there daily business, buying local fresh tropical fruits, vegetables, coffee and local hand made arts n crafts. No trip to Cairns would be complete without a visit to this famous long running market, open Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings from 6am to 3pm.
Local Bus Service How to Get Around:
If your staying in the city you can use the local public bus service called Sun Bus Cairns this public bus service is easy to use and you can buy your ticket directly from the driver. Make sure to have some small change to pay the driver they generally don’t like large notes. It generally takes about 45min to travel from the Cairns City Center out to Palm Cove one of Cairns nicest beaches.
[su_spoiler title="TRAVEL TO CAIRNS, BUS, FLIGHTS" style="fancy"]The easiest and most convenient way to arrive in Cairn is by airline, domestic airline services like Jetstar, Qantas, Virgin and Tiger Air all run services to Cairns from all the major cities of Australia i.e. Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
International Flights to Cairns:
There are also international airlines flying direct to Cairns from Singapore, Tokyo/Osaka Japan, Guam, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Guangzhou in China.
Travel to Cairns by Greyhound Bus:
The other popular way to get to Cairns is by traveling the East Coast of Australia from say Brisbane or Sydney with the Hop On Hop Off Greyhound Bus Pass. Two of the most popular tickets are the Greyhound Bus Pass Cairns to Sydney or Greyhound Bus Pass Sydney to Cairns. Many backpackers use this East Coast service to hop on and hop off all the way up the East Coast of Australia only to finally arrive in Cairns the Gateway To The Great Barrier Reef.
[su_spoiler title="HOW'S THE WEATHER IN CAIRNS" style="fancy"]Cairns weather can generally be classed into 2 categories: Hot & Rainy then Dry and Cool. Now depending what time of the year you can get off work and come to Cairns there is something for everyone 12 months of the year. But as a general rule of thumb the months of December, January, February, March, April can be classed as our wet rainy monsoon season. The monsoon generally brings heavy early morning and late afternoon rain, typically the middle part of the day can be sunny hot and humid. The monsoon season is also when we can have perfect flat calm conditions out on the reef so is a beautiful time to Scuba Dive. The Dry/Cool season of May, June, July, August, September, October and the first weeks of November are generally the most loved times for people coming to Cairns for a holiday. This Dry/Cool time of the year offers light sea breezes and generally no rain. So as a scuba diver this is also the time of year for Whale sightings, there are many Liveaboard Dive Trips that cater to certified divers wanting a multi-day dive package looking to swim with the whales.
