Cairns LiveAboard Dive Trips: Pro-Dive Cairns
The next level up for Scuba Diving in Cairns is a LiveAboard Dive Trip with Pro-Dive Cairns. These vessels (3 in total) operate 3-day liveaboard dive trips to Flynn, Milln and Pellow Reefs. These trips are for people who really want to dive allot. For example, both you and your partner are already certified and love diving then this is the trip for you. Your day starts with excellent dive briefings from the man dive manager. They explain the reef sites in great depth and you will feel very comfortable exploring these reefs in your own buddy pair. Some of Cairns best diving can be found on Flynn Reef. A dive site called Gordon’s offers beautiful shallow diving with an amazing amount of hawks-bill sea turtles. You can push around 18 metres depth on the outer walls and most of the colourful corals can be found at around 14 meters. The next site I should really mention is Tracy’s this dive site has amazing coral growth, it must be very sheltered from storm surge and things like that because the growth of the coral is some of the best ever to be seen on The Great Barrier Reef.
Cairns LiveAboard Dive Trips: Spirit Of Freedom
Now for the experienced diver that really wants the very best of diving from Cairns then you cannot go past Spirit Of Freedom. This livaboard dive vessel is a multi-day live aboard that offers 3 different journeys.
The main journey we have listed because we think this offers the best value for money for the locations that you get to dive. Departing Cairns on a Thursday by light aircraft you will fly from Cairns to Lizard Island. Here you meet the boat get set up in your room and then start your first dives on the outer ribbon reefs from Cooktown.
After about an 8-hour steam overnight you will arrive at Osprey Reef a coral reef system, a dormant volcano located in 1000m of water in the middle of the coral sea. Here you can experience amazing wall dives, drift diving and there famous shark feed. The shark feed is held at the dive site North Horn in open water with no cages. You have your back against the wall and once everybody is in place they will lower the feed tank and open it up for a magnificent encounter with about 40 sharks.
